Grahame the farmer!

I am a farmer apprenticing on a biodynamic farm in Cawston. I used to be a starving artist, studying French Horn at UBC, but farming is more my passion, and it's more difficult to starve doing it! I love to dance, play music and board games, and cook. I am an accomplished baker, with a buckwheat-millet bread being a specialty, though I am also starting to experiment with pumpernickel, and am hoping to grow Teff so I can play with a more authentic injera bread -- a soured Ethiopian flatbread. I have been vegetarian for years, but my studies of permaculture and Joel Salatin's inspiring grass farming has made me more of a farmetarian: I am interested in eating some meat in my diet, though I try to source meat raised on farms, not in factories. My favourite board games are Agricola and Bohnanza, which perhaps makes me a farm geek. They are really elegant games though. The music I love to listen to most is Rajaton, a Finnish accapela group that I've seen perform in Vancouver a couple glorious times. I enjoy playing Strauss and Pirates of the Carribean music on horn, and on the piano the easier Haydn sonatas are what I've enjoyed practicing this winter. In my studies at UBC I was most interested in the fundamental intricacies of tuning as an expressive force. My favourite author is Frank Herbert. The Dune series is relevant for many reasons, though the islander in me really enjoyed even more the sentient-kelp ecology of the Jesus Incident series.
